Capricorn New Moon 2022 — releasing self-doubt
The world needs you to step into your truth and the person you came here to be.
Hey Witches,
Congratulations, you made it through another year! December 23rd brings the last New Moon of 2022 — this time in Capricorn and coinciding with the Winter Solstice and the pagan festival of Yule.
As a cardinal Earth sign, Capricorn is all about laying the foundations that provide the material security, stability, and structure on which to build our goals.
Represented by the Goat and the mythical Sea Goat, Capricorn is associated with ambition, structure, tenacity, and hard work.
However, the Solstice is a Yin time of year. A time to honour the darkness and stillness within ourselves. So while it’s a supportive lunation for making plans and setting intentions, hold off on taking action just yet.
The energy may feel sluggish with Mars still retrograde, and we’re already in Mercury retrograde’s shadow. The messenger planet will begin its backspin just five days after the New Moon, on December 28th.
So while this is a good time for planning, reviewing, revising, giving thanks, and setting your course for 2023, the best action right now is no action. Just as the whole of nature shuts down and turns inward at this time of year, the Winter Solstice invites us to do the same.
Take this time to address your shadows and the things that may be holding you back. What’s hiding in the darkness that wants to be brought into the light? What parts of yourself are you rejecting? They can be the key that unlocks your greatness and propels you towards your goals.
For example, if you had an overly critical caregiver growing up, you may have internalised that critical voice that tells you you’re not enough, not good enough, or not deserving of your dreams. These beliefs can prevent you from taking action towards achieving your goals.
Use the supportive energy of the Capricorn New Moon to rid yourself of any old stories or limiting beliefs that hold you back. Since this New Moon is also a Supermoon, its energy is extra potent and could give you the cosmic kick in the ass you need to make your dreams a reality in 2023.
The world needs you to step into your truth and the person you came here to be. Use the energy of this New Moon to set your intentions for the upcoming year — but don’t forget to celebrate this year’s wins first!
A candle spell for self-love
The winter solstice is all about honouring the light, so what could be more fitting than a candle spell? This spell will help you call in self-love and acceptance so that you can go after your goals with confidence in 2023.
You will need:
A pink, red, or white candle
An anointing oil, such as olive or coconut oil
Dried rose petals (for love), or calendula or chamomile (for confidence)
A piece of rose quartz
Start by gathering your materials. Anoint your candle with the oil by rubbing it from the tips to the centre. Sprinkle your chosen herb over the candle so that it sticks to the oil.
Light the candle and hold the rose quartz in your hands. Stare into the flame and imagine it burning away any negativity towards yourself, limiting beliefs, and self-doubt.
Think about all your positive qualities, strengths, the things you like about yourself, and anything you’re proud of this year. Visualise directing that energy into the rose quartz.
Continue to meditate on the flame until you feel the spell is done. Then, snuff out the candle or let it burn all the way down.
Carry the rose quartz with you, place it on your desk, or hold it in your hand any time you need a boost of self-love.
Capricorn New Moon rituals and self-care tips
Go to a Yin yoga class.
Make mulled wine or non-alcoholic mulled cider with spices such as cinnamon, cloves, and star anise. Stir clockwise as you heat it, and visualise your intentions for yourself and those who will drink it. Share with loved ones.
Write your intentions for the coming year on a piece of paper. Plant seeds with your intentions. Use slow-growing, perennial herbs and plant them indoors so that by the spring, you can plant them outside and use them to add oomph to your kitchen witchery and magickal workings throughout the year.
Write down everything you want to leave behind this year and bury it in the ground. Ask the Earth to take these energies and transmute them into love for the Earth and all her beings. Leave an offering of flowers or fruit or by pouring Moon water into the ground.
Get a massage.
Take a goddess bath with herbs such as lavender and rose petals. If you don’t have a bath (like me), mix the herbs into a jug of warm water and pour it over yourself in the shower. Imagine the water washing away any stagnant or negative energies from your auric field and infusing you with self-love and confidence.
Make moon water — leave a jar of water outside (with the lid on). Place a piece of quartz on top. Remove in the morning and hold the jar in your hands to infuse the water with your intentions. Drink it or use it to make your favourite tea or infusion.
Capricorn New Moon journaling prompts
Write a list of all your achievements this year — no matter how big or small.
Write a list of 100 things you’re grateful for in 2022.
Write a list of everything you’re leaving behind.
What shadow aspects of yourself are coming to the surface for integration right now? How can you learn to love and accept them?
Write down your goals and everything you’re calling in for next year.
Write about all the people you’re grateful for this year and why. Bonus if you call them and tell them or even write them a letter or card.
What do you forgive yourself for this year?
Review your 2022 goals and intentions. Celebrate the things you achieved and have compassion with yourself for those you didn’t. If you didn’t achieve something, ask yourself whether it’s still a priority for you. If not, it’s okay to let it go.
That’s it from me for this year! I would like to thank all my subscribers, both old and new, for forming part of this small but growing community.
It’s truly an honour to have you here, and you keep me motivated to keep creating content that (I hope) inspires and supports you wherever you are on your journey.
I also want to let you know that I’ve decided to activate paid subscriptions for those who would like to support my work financially. Although I don’t have any immediate plans to create additional content for paid subscribers, you can think of this as a way to buy me a virtual coffee to thank me for my work.
However, this is optional, and free subscribers will continue to be a valued part of the community.
Wishing you a blessed and peaceful Winter Solstice and Yule and all the very best for 2023.
Love and blessings,
Victoria
